A journey to understanding

This is where our journey begins—with truth, respect, and learning at the heart of reconciliation in Canada. Explore Understanding Indigenous Reconciliation—a space dedicated to centering Indigenous voices, sharing history, and inspiring action across communities. Together, we commit to ongoing education, awareness, and meaningful partnerships that foster healing and justice. We’re grateful you’re here to join us in building a future where Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples walk forward together in respect and hope.

What is Reconciliation?

Reconciliation is the ongoing process of healing relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples in Canada. It means recognizing and addressing the legacy of colonialism, honouring Indigenous rights and treaties, and creating systems that reflect equity, respect, and mutual benefit.

True reconciliation is not a single act or moment—it’s a long-term commitment to justice, truth, and shared prosperity.

To forget history is to forget the lessons learnt. To forget the lessons learnt is to repeat the mistakes made. In order to truly reconcile, we must first acknowledge our history, acknowledge the pain and the mistakes. Only then can the steps be taken, to build a relationship based on respect and partnership.
